The classic novel which became a legendary film. Walter Tevis first novel, which was later turned into a film of the same name starring icon Paul Newman. First published in 1959, with the film adaptation coming out just two years later. Similar to William Goldman, Tevis had a knack for writing books that made for perfect source material for films and TV. The follow up to this novel, The Colour of Money, was also made into a film by Martin Scorsese with Newman retaining the same role as Fast Eddie, joined by a young Tom Cruise. He also wrote, The Man Who Fell to Earth and The Queens Gambit.
