Dream Big
First published in 1959, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, went on to become a cult novel about the early struggles of a working class, 'two-timing, trouble making, self pitying young Jew from a Montreal back-street.' It was later turned into a film of the same name starring Richard Dreyfuss in the title role, the 1974 film's portrayal of a frantic, obsessive young hustler serves as a clear influence on the anxiety inducing cinematic stylings associated with the Safdie brothers, and has been cited by Josh Safdie as major influence on Marty Supreme.
