Another beautiful New English Library Underground Classic edition of another cult classic. This time it's Jean Cocteau's Opium, The Illustrated Diary of his Cure.

The literary and cinematic legend gives his no-holds-barred account of a dangerous addiction In this classic study Cocteau vividly describes his extraordinary experiences while taking opium, the drug to which he owed his "perfect hours" but which, inevitably, exacted its price.

Alongside his written account the diary is full of his beautiful illustrations and artworks.

Visible wear on the front and back cover but the pages, contents and spine of the book are in excellent condition. As with all our books it will be wrapped in protective mylar upon delivery.

New English Library was formed in 1961 as a subsidiary of the New American Library, they initially published genre fiction; Westerns, sci- fi, mysteries, that kind of thing. However, the editors quickly realised they were missing something of a trick: by gearing books toward a working-class youth audience, something American pulp merchants had been doing for some time with great success, they would be all but guaranteed a higher circulation.
