City of Night by John Rechy

A beautiful UK first edition hardback copy of John Rechy's cult 1963 novel City of Night, the taboo-busting 1960s classic that gave voice to a hidden subculture. A classic of queer literature and an essential LA novel.

The cultural impact of the novel is deep and broad, a favourite of James Baldwin, it also inspired film maker Gus van Sant to write the screenplay for My Own Private Idaho. Jim Morrison also famously made reference to the book in his song with The Doors, L.A. Woman - ‘Are you a lucky little lady in The City of Light? Or just another lost angel-City of Night.’
