Cahiers Du Cinéma Volume 2: 1960's New Wave, New Cinema, Re-evaluating Hollywood
An anthology from Cahiers Du Cinéma nos 103-207, January 1960 - December 1968.
Cahiers du Cinéma was one of the most influential magazines in the history of film. Founded in 1951 by André Bazin, Jacques Doniol-Valcroze, and Joseph-Marie Lo Duca. Initially edited by Doniol-Valcroze and, after 1957, by Éric Rohmer, it included amongst its writers Chris Marker, Jacques Rivette, Jean-Luc Godard, Claude Chabrol and Francois Truffaut, who all went on to become highly influential filmmakers.
I think Philip Strick from Films and Filming puts it best in his review when it comes to this collection,
'Mouth-watering items include an interview with Rossellini, Chabrol's review of Rear Window, Eric Rohmer's review of Rebel Without a Cause, and Jean-Luc Godard's review of The 400 Blows, along with the crucial essay "On the politique des auteurs" by André Bazin...No serious student of film appreciation will want to miss an opportunity to dip into this collection.'
Beautiful and scarce hardback, first edition of this collection of the iconic French film magazine. Cover image is a still of Anna Karina from Pierrot le Fou by Godard.
