Got a nice little stack of Cinema Two editions in at the minute, published by Secker & Warburg throughout the 70s these were a sister series to their Cinema One books. Apposed to the introductory nature of Cinema One, these offered a more in-depth look into the featured directors and cinematic movements that their authors focused on.
This particular edition is on Hiroshima Mon Amour director, Alain Resnais. The French director was a contemporary of the French New Wave - la nouvelle vague, though Resnais did not regard himself as being fully part of that movement. He really had much closer links to the Left Bank group of authors and filmmakers though, who shared a commitment to modernism and left-wing politics.
