The Great American Novel by Philip Roth
The Great American Novel by Philip Roth
Lesser read compared to some of his iconic and infamous novels this piece turns Roth’s attention to one of the most beloved of all American rituals: baseball. Players, tycoons and the paying public are all targets as Roth satirises the dense tapestry of myths and legends that have grown up around The Great American Pastime.
This edition echoes most of his other american publications by carrying the same typographic signature. It consists of a bold condensed Caslon variant with swashes, set center-aligned, with the title and the author’s name separated by color.
Highly recommend checking out Jason Diamond's multiple articles on Philip Roth, in particular his piece in GQ on the damning state of mens reading habits and why the boys should pick up some Roth.
